Written in 1928 by D. H. Lawrence and notorious ever since for the torrid affair between an upper-class married Lady and a lower-class gamekeeper. The artwork keeps the tension and leaves the scandal outside: a woman in dark-rimmed glasses photographed straight on, entirely composed, set into a restless ground of violet and deep green. The colour does all the misbehaving. She simply looks back at you.
